Any and all property held by a husband or wife may be considered marital property in Connecticut, regardless of when or where it was acquired. The increased value of premarital property is itself considered an asset of the marriage. The court may redistribute any property to either spouse. For this reason, it is often said that Connecticut is an "all property equitable distribution state."

Marital Residence
Connecticut family law courts may determine that both spouses have an interest in the marital residence, regardless of how it was acquired or is titled. During the time of separation leading up to a divorce, a wife or husband who leaves the home will not be penalized for having "abandoned the marital residence."
